Application Settings - General Ledger

Learn how to add, edit and delete General Ledger related settings such as GL Reporting Groups and Tax Codes.

Desktop: Click the LEAP Menu > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

 

Web: Click User-added image > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

Account Codes

Before you install LEAP, your accounting software (QuickBooks or Xero) must be set up with the relevant LEAP codes. Once the two programs are linked, the relevant codes can be entered into LEAP. This will ensure that the general accounting details such as receipts, cheques and invoices are transferred through the correct amount into your accounting software. If you need to change these general ledger account codes, please contact a LEAP Consultant.

  1. Set up your LEAP account codes in your accounting software.

  2. Click Accounting > under General Ledger > Account Codes.

  3. Enter the relevant account codes as required.

  4. Click Save.

GL Reporting Groups

 

This page is used for setting branch offices. Branch offices have a specific code that must be entered into your general ledger.

Create a GL Reporting Group

 

To create a new GL Reporting Group:

  1. Click Accounting > under General Ledger > GL Reporting Groups.

  2. Click New GL Reporting Group to add your branch office as a reporting group.

  3. Enter the reporting group Name and the Full Name of the branch office. This should match what you've entered in your accounting software.

  4. Enter the Tracking Category/Option. For example, this could be Location/Ontario.

  5. Click Save.

Assign a Matter to a GL Reporting Group

 

To assign a matter to a GL Reporting Group:

  1. Open the matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Open Matter Details.

  4. Click the Accounting tab.

  5. Select a GL Reporting Group from the drop-down.

  6. Click OK.

Delete a GL Reporting Group

 

To delete a GL Reporting Group:

  1. Click Accounting > under General Ledger > GL Reporting Groups.

  2. Open a GL Reporting Group.

  3. Click Delete.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

Tax Codes

 

  1. Click Accounting > under General Ledger > Tax Codes.

  2. Click New Tax Code.

  3. Enter the Tax Code.

  4. Enter the required information.

  5. Click Save.

You can also:

  • Sort the tax codes in ascending or descending order by clicking on a column heading and using the up or down arrows.
  • Change a tax code, click on an entry from the table. Edit the details as required and click Save when you're finished.
  • Delete a tax code, select an entry from the table and click Delete. Confirm the deletion by clicking OK.

Click the Defaults tab and select the appropriate default Tax Codes for each of the listed options from the drop-down lists. Click Save when you're finished.
