About Document Packets

Learn how to create, manage and store document packets for your clients on LEAP Desktop.

Search for a Document Packet

 

  1. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Home > under Documents > Document Packets.

    The Document Packets will open in a new window.

  2. You can search by the following options:

    • Click to search and select your Client.
    • For packets with a matter assigned to them, click to search and select a Matter. Click to open the selected Matter. In order to search for packets via selecting a Matter, you will need to have entered the Matter when creating the packet.
    • Enter a Packet No.
    • Enter a Location.

  3. Click Search.

    The list of document packets will be generated based on your selected or entered criteria.

Create a Document Packet

There are two ways to access the Document Packets window:

  1. Click the LEAP Menu > Home > under Documents > Document Packets.

    The Document Packets will open in a new window > click New.

  2. From your LEAP Matter > select the Registers tab > New Packet.

  1. Click to search and select a Matter. This is an optional process that is separate from selecting a Client. Selecting a Matter is required in order for you to search for the packet by entering the matter.

    Click to open the selected Matter.

  2. Click to search and select your Client.

    Click to open the selected Client card.

  3. An automatic sequential number is filled in Packet No.

    Untick Auto checkbox if you would like to update the packet number manually. This will change for this packet only and will not alter the automatic number sequence.

You will not be able to change the Packet No. once you save the document packet.

  1. (Optional) Enter a Location.

  2. (Optional) Enter a Memo. The Memo field allows you to include more information on the Document Packet.

  3. Click Save & Close.

Edit an Existing Document Packet

 

  1. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Home > under Documents > Document Packets.

    The Document Packets will open in a new window.

  2. Search for the document packet.

  3. Open the document packet.

  4. Make the changes as required.

  5. Click Save & Close.

Delete an Existing Document Packet

A Document Packet cannot be deleted if it has documents attached to it.

  1. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Home > under Documents > Document Packets.

    The Document Packets will open in a new window.

  2. Search for the document packet.

  3. Open the document packet.

  4. Click .

  5. Click Yes to confirm.

Restore a Deleted Document Packet

 

  1. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Home > under Documents > Document Packets.

    The Document Packets will open in a new window.

  2. Click and select Show Deleted.

    Deleted document packets will be displayed in red.

  3. Open the document packet.

  4. Click and select Undelete.

  5. Click Save & Close.

    If you receive the message "that number is already in use" when creating a document packet, the number has already been assigned to another packet. If the packet is not visible, it may have been deleted.

Print the Document Packets List

 

Click at the top-left of the window to print the Document Packets list.

You may encounter an issue printing the Document Packets list if the packet does not have a matter assigned to it. Follow these steps to resolve it: First, remove the documents from the register, assign a matter number to the packet and then re-add the documents to the packet.

Change the Document Packet Number

 

To change what number the next Document Packet will be starting from:

  1. From the main LEAP Matter List screen, click the LEAP Menu > Settings > Application Settings.

    The Application Settings window will open in a new window.

  2. Under Documents > click on Document Numbering.

    The Document Numbering window will be displayed.

  3. Untick Document Numbering.

  4. Enter the desired number into the Document Packet Number field and then tick the Document Numbering checkbox.

    Click Save.

    For example:

    If you enter the Document Packet Number as 2000, the next New Document Packet number will be 2001.
