From February 1, 2025, all businesses registered in the Ontario Business Registry need a company key to file annual returns, update their business information in the registry, or conduct transactions through the Ontario Business Registry self-serve portal.
Companies incorporated on or after October 19, 2021, were automatically issued a company key on registration. Businesses incorporated before that date need to submit a request for one to be issued to them.
A corporation can obtain a company key through the Ontario Business Registry website.
