Learn how to alter fees to provide a discount on an Invoice or create an Invoice adjustment for a write-off.

Invoice Discounts

A discount can only be applied to an invoice while it is in Draft status, not once it has been finalized.

Alter Fees to Provide Discount on Invoice

When creating a new invoice, you can:

Click on the ellipsis icon in the top right-hand corner.
Select Alter Fees.

Once the Alter Time/Fees window appears, you can enter a negative amount or percentage to apply the required discount.

If there are multiple staff’s fees associated with the invoice, you can click on the Advanced button to alter the equal split discount breakdown per staff.

Click OK.

Invoice Adjustment/Write-off

Write Off Adjustment on Invoices

You can write off a finalized invoice in cases where the firm could not collect the receivable balance.

Open the matter and make sure you're on the General Accounting tab.
Click Expenses & Receivables, find and right-click the finalized invoice.
Select Adjust Invoice.

The New Invoice Adjustment window will open.

Enter or edit the Mail To field and enter the total amount you will be adjusting for the invoice under Mail To.
Enter or click to select the invoice adjustment Date.
Enter or edit the Reason for the adjustment.
Enter the Adjustment amount for each item on the invoice.

Click to edit heading

To adjust the invoice down, the amount must be negative, e.g. -100.00.

Click Save & Close.
